Generous Listening Vuslat Groups:
FAQ

Founded in 2020, the V Foundation is dedicated to cultivating the skill of Generous Listening as a foundation for building and sustaining deep, meaningful, and authentic relationships in society. The foundation collaborates with academia, civil society, and the private sector to produce knowledge and research, develop methodologies and tools, and raise awareness around generous listening.

Generous Listening is the ability to listen to others, ourselves, and the world around us with empathy and understanding—without interrupting, judging, or trying to fix. Listening here goes beyond hearing words; it engages both the heart and the mind. Generous Listening supports sincere connection, mutual understanding, and trust.

The practice involves giving full attention to the speaker, focusing on their experience, and seeking to understand their perspective without judgment. It requires empathy—seeing situations from another’s point of view—and a willingness to suspend one’s own assumptions and biases while remaining open to learning from others’ experiences and insights.

Generous Listening Vuslat Groups are facilitated group gatherings that create space for listening generously to oneself, others, and nature, with the intention of building deeper and more meaningful connections. These groups are designed as safe and respectful environments where participants can share experiences, emotions, and reflections.

Participants are invited to listen to one another without interruption or judgment, offering presence, care, and mutual support. Through this shared practice, individual awareness deepens and a stronger sense of connection and community emerges.

Generous Listening Vuslat Groups do not replace professional mental health services, psychotherapy, or medical treatment. While they offer a safe and supportive space for shared experience, they are not clinical interventions. Participants who need specialized or individual support are encouraged to seek appropriate professional resources

Anyone with the intention to experience and practice Generous Listening is welcome to join.

Groups are organized as listening circles, where participants share in turn within a respectful and non-judgmental setting. A facilitator guides the process to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be heard.

Facilitators work with the Generous Listening Vuslat Group Facilitator Guide, which supports the flow and integrity of the group. Local context, language, cultural differences, and participants’ needs are considered to ensure an inclusive and welcoming environment.

Groups are led by trained facilitators. As part of its mission to grow a culture of Generous Listening, the Vuslat Foundation offers Volunteer Facilitator Trainings for those who wish to hold space for new groups and support the practice in their own communities.

The program is designed with care and attentiveness to participants’ well-being. Facilitators are trained to notice when someone may need additional support and to guide them toward appropriate resources if needed.

All activities take place in safe and secure environments. Participant confidentiality is a core principle; no identifying information is shared with third parties. Sessions are not audio-recorded. When photos or videos are taken, informed consent is obtained. Participant data is collected and stored in accordance with the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK, Law No. 6698). Ethical approvals are obtained for research activities.

Sustainability is a key priority for the Vuslat Foundation. The foundation collaborates with institutions, organizations, and communities to ensure the continuity of Generous Listening Vuslat Groups and the long-term growth of the practice.

The impact of the groups is continuously evaluated by a research team of experienced academics and researchers, ensuring that the programs remain meaningful, effective, and responsive over time.
